They say that that the absolute most important thing in a person comes out in childhood. Our professional childhood was spent in seminar with Pavel Aleksandrovich Markov – and how lucky we were! About the atmosphere of those seminars, Markov’s persona, how he could lead us through dangerous times such that we didn’t get dirty – Natasha herself wrote better than all.
 
Her extraordinariness was clear from the beginning. To this day, I remember one of her first papers, read in a Markov seminar – about the L. Leonov play, “Invasion.” After Natasha’s paper, the words of the leading man in Fedor Talanov’s play entered into our academic and family day-to-day: “All of us were children. And look at what came of those children…” Much good came from Markov’s “children”…
